A day after she was appointed as International Goodwill Ambassador of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Aishwarya Rai Bachchan along with supermodel Christy Turlington made an eye-catching appearance at a UN charity event.

On Tuesday night, Turlington and Aishwarya, both acclaimed to be among the world's most beautiful women, posed together at the 2012 United Nations Every Woman Every Child Dinner in New York City.

The bollywood actress looked stunningly beautiful at the event in a bright red floor length gown and with cascading hair. Turlington also looked every bit gorgeous in a casual black trench coat over a blue shirt with her hair tied up.

"In just two years, Every Woman Every Child has achieved important results in accelerating progress for women and children," UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who launched the foundation in Sept 2010, explained the impact of their program.

"I am encouraged that so many global leaders have galvanized action around key issues like family planning, child survival and access to essential commodities. Even in these times of austerity, there is no better investment than the health of women and children," he added.

Tuesday's event saw the former Miss World meeting several celebrities including British model Lily Cole, Smash star Debra Messing and model Erin Heatherton. Several women prime ministers and royal figures also attended the event, Daily Mail reported.

The foundation "Every Woman Every Child" aims to save the lives of 16 million women and children by 2015. It also seeks to accelerate progress for women and children through key measures like family planning, child survival and access to essential commodities.
