
To say that 2025 was a year of chaos, disturbance, economic fallout and political wars would be an understatement. From stampedes, worsening AQI, terrorist attacks and aviation chaos in India to election of new Pope, Iran – Israel war and Trump's foreign policy; the year came with some of the most significant and jolting events. India news
Maha Kumbh stampede: The month-long Mahakumbh event brought millions of people from around the world to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Our politicians, cricketers, Bollywood and TV celebs to the aam aadmi; people thronged to Kumbh to take the holy dip. However, on January 29, a stampede broke out near the Sangam snan area. Over 30 people were killed in the stampede including children and hundreds were injured.

Pahalgam attack: The ghosts of the past came back to haunt Kashmir as terrorists opened fire at Hindu tourists in Pahalgam on April 22. The Resistance Front (TRF) took responsibility for the attack that marked one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Kashmir valley. 26 people lost their life in the attack including one Nepali citizen.

Operation Sindoor: In retaliation to the Pahalgam attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 6–7. Indian officials targeted terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and killed over 100 terrorists. India claimed that it was Pakistan that sought truce. Operation Sindoor emerged as a testament to the Indian army's mettle and its power to the world.

Air India crash: In one of the deadliest crashes seen in the world, an Air India plane on June 12 claimed 260 live. On its way to London, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plunged seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad. A sudden loss of engine power led to the crash leaving the entire crew, pilots, and passengers dead. Only one person managed to survive the fatal crash.

Dharmendra death: One of the biggest artists of the Indian film industry, Dharmendra breathed his last on November 24. The whole nation was left heartbroken and grieving over his demise. Sunny Deol and Hema Malini held separate prayer meets for the legendary actor. His last film, Ikkis, has been receiving a lot of love from the audience now.

Indigo crisis: Failure to adhere to DGCA directives led Indigo to cancel over 1000 of flights all over India on December 3. The aviation chaos continued amid flight cancellations, extensive delays and major uproar by the passengers. This also led to massive fare surge in other airlines as passengers turned to them amid holiday bookings and emergency commitments.

AQI: Delhi's air quality index has hit an all time low with the AQI index reaching 'severe' category. The national capital is engulfed with dense fog and massive pollution as Air Quality Index (AQI) gets recorded at 408. Schools have gone hybrid and work-from-home has now been initiated in several offices.

US imposes 25% tariff: In a case of economic fallout, Donald Trump imposed a 25% tariff on range of Indian goods. The US President imposed tariff by calling out "obnoxious" non-tariff barriers. The move came as a major blow to India with approximately $87 billion export industry in partnership with the US. While Trump called the move a step ahead in US leverage in the global market, experts called it a veiled attack at India's growing ties with Russia.

Cardinal Robert Prevost Becomes Pope Leo XIV: It was on May 8 that the world got its new Pope. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost became the 267th pope. Cardinal Robert Prevost was chosen as the successor to the late Pope Francis. Cardinal Robert Prevost is now known as Pope Leo XIV. Chicago-born Pope Leo XIV is the first U.S. pope in the church's history.

Iran's nuclear facilities attacked by Israel, US: It was on June 14, 2025 that the world woke up to the news of Israel's massive strikes at Iran's nuclear facilities. Israel struck Iran's nuclear bases Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow. Israel called it 'Operation Rising Lion' as it claimed that Iran had come "dangerously close" to making nuclear bombs. Israel was joined by U.S. B2 bombers and Tomahawk missiles under 'Operation Midnight Hammer'. Israel and Iran reached ceasefire agreement on June 24.
