He approached director Priyadarshan and requested him to give the name of an authentic organisation to which he can donate the money. The filmmaker directed him to seek Suhasini Maniratnam's help and she told him to donate it to the Bhumika Trust, which has been working round the clock on relief works.

The managing director from Bhumika recently received the cheque, claim reports. This gesture has been appreciated by his fans and especially by Tamil cine-goers. It is because he has done so without publicity.

"Heartbreaking to hear about the #ChennaiFloods wreaking havoc...hoping tomorrow is a bright and sunny day. Prayers with all those affected," Akshay Kumar had tweeted soon after Chennai was affected by heavy rain.

It has to be noted that he is the second actor from Bollywood to make a Rs 1 crore donation. Shah Rukh Khan, who is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming movie "Dilwale", was first to contribute Rs 1 crore for the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

The entire Indian film industry has done its bit for the Chennai flood victims. Especially, the Telugu film personalities have gone extra mile in collecting funds for the victims. Even Kannada film industry has planned to contribute Rs 50 lakh.
