The popular ad-blocking browser Adblock Plus unveiled its first version for Android devices on Tuesday.

Adblock Plus, an ad-blocking app for the internet users, claims to block mobile ads, video advertising, banners, push notifications, display advertising and HTML 5 advertising. The app is available for free download on Google Play Page and users who do not have access to the Google Play account can get the app from the AdBlock Plus for Android website.

AdBlock Plus "works in background and filters out ads in almost all Android browsers and apps. Android 2.1 and higher is supported, the app uses the same filter lists as the Adblock Plus browser extensions," said a post on the AdBlock Plus blog.

According to reports, the recently released Adblock Plus Android version functions on the basis of the version of Android that's being used. Tech 2 website reported that the app blocks all ads over both packet data connection and WIFI in devices which are based on the rooted version of Android, while in devices using unrooted version of Android, like Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the users have to configure the app manually for a better performance. The devices which use Ice Cream Sandwich versions will block the ads only on WIFI.

"To filter ads, all traffic has to pass through Adblock Plus. Android considers this to be the traffic caused by the app, while it is in reality the sum of all traffic," the app's FAQ page clarifies.

Adblock Plus, developed by Eyeo, is also available for Web browsers like Firefox, Chrome and Opera. According to reports, the app is used by 15 million users on a daily basis, and is downloaded over one lakh times every day on average.
