The much-awaited Dangal trailer was released on October 19 and has already garnered over 25 million hits across platforms. Upon release, not only was the trailer a talking point among those interested, it began trending on social media within minutes.

A healthyy mix of action and drama, the Dangal trailer is easily one of the best trailers of 2016. Although, it does resemble Sultan in bits and parts, but that is only because Dangal shares the central - wrestling - with the Salman Khan-starrer.

Dangal is a special film for quite a few reasons. First, Aamir is back on the big screen after two years - his last film was PK. Second, he underwent a drastic physical transformation to fit the part. He plays the younger and older version of Olympics wrestling coach Mahavir Singh Phogat. Because the film is set in different time periods of Mahavir's life, Aamir had to pile on and lose kilograms based on that.

He was on a strict calorie-count diet, which helped him lose all the 22 kilograms he had put on by eating full meals through the day.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal landed itself controversies earlier this year when there were reports that Aamir would change the release date as the audience wouldn't want to see another version of Sultan this soon.

However, in Salman's press interactions for Sultan, he made it clear that his sports-drama film is different from Dangal. "My film is different than his. Both of us knew that the two films are about wrestling. In that case, does it mean that if Shah Rukh Khan is doing a love story then I won't do it? I have heard Aamir's (film) script and it is outstanding," he told the media.

Dangal is scheduled to be released on December 23.
