In a bid to boost defence cooperation between India and Saudi Arabia, Defence Minister A.K. Antony will be in Riyadh on a two-day visit beginning Monday.

In this first ever historic visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Saudi Arabia, Antony will hold discussions with his counterpart Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, besides meeting other leaders in Riyadh.

Current defence cooperation between the two countries includes training exchanges, ship visits and high-level visits.

This visit is expected to enable both sides to engage in discussions on areas where such cooperation can be expanded to mutual benefit, said a statement by the Ministry of Defence.

Antony will also be interacting with the representatives of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia.

A high-level delegation, including the Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma, Vice-Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. S.K. Singh, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Satish Soni and Air Vice Marshal M.R. Pawar accompanied the Minister.
