The presentation ceremony of the 64th National Film Award will be held on Wednesday, May 3, in New Delhi wherein Directorate of Film Festivals (DIFF) will present the National Awards to the winners of Indian cinema in 2016.

The National Awards for films is an annual encouragement implemented by the Government of India to support cinematic excellence and present the best talents to national limelight. The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, will felicitate the National Awards to the winners in the presence of the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Chairpersons of the juries, representatives of Film Federation of India and Confederation of All India Cine Employees.

In January this year, the Directorate of Film Festivals had invited online entries for the first time and more than 300 films competed for the honours. The process to choose the best from Indian cinema began in March. Filmmaker Priyadarshan was the chairperson of the jury in feature films category, while Raju Misra, cinematographer and a writer, was the chairperson in non-feature category.

  • Best Film on social issue: Pink (Hindi)
  • Best Direction: Rajesh Mapuskar for Ventilator (Marathi)
  • Best Actor: Akhay Kumar for Rustom (Hindi)
  • Best Actress: Surabhi Lakshmi for Minnaminungu (Malayalam)
  • Best Supporting Actor: Manoj Joshi for Dashakriya (Marathi)
  • Best Supporting Actress: Zaira Wasim for Dangal (Hindi)
  • Best Hindi Feature Film: Neerja
  • Best Special Effects: Shivaay (Hindi)
  • Best Choreography: Raju Sundaram for Janatha Garage (Telugu)
  • Best Music Direction: Babu Padmanabha for Allama (Kannada)
