Suriya's "24" is off to a good start in Chennai. It has performed better than many movies, including "Captain America."

The Tamil movie has earned Rs. 1.53 crore from 318 shows, reports Behindwoods. The film, according to reports, had earned Rs. 60 lakh in Chennai on the first day. However, trade experts believe that the Suriya-starrer had the potential to perform a little better than it has managed to do. The collections of the Vikram Kumar-directed film were affected by the Hollywood film, "Captain America," and Ilayathapathy Vijay's "Theri," both of which occupied a decent number of screens.

"Captain America: Civil War" is in the second place in Chennai. The movie has got a good opening, and has raked in Rs. 49.52 lakh from 168 shows. The performance of the movie shows that Chennai is now turning out to be good market for Hollywood films.

The Udhayanidhi Stalin-starrer "Manithan" has collected Rs. 36.46 lakh from 138 shows in its second weekend. The 10-day collection of the movie stands at Rs. 1.96 crore. In the opening weekend, the film had earned Rs. 69.87 lakh from 207 shows.

After ruling the Chennai box office for three weeks, the collection of "Theri" has slowed down. In its fourth weekend, the movie raked in Rs. 21.62 lakh from 129 shows. The total collection of the film stands at Rs. 9.69 crore.

"The Jungle Book" has successfully entered the fifth week in Chennai. The film earned Rs. 9.89 lakh from 63 shows to take its total tally to Rs. 2.96 crore.

Sasikumar's "Vetrivel" has failed to make it big in Chennai. The movie raked in over Rs. 43,000 from 92 shows last weekend. The total collection of the film stood at Rs. 58.60 lakh at the end of its third weekend.
