It's no secret that German car maker Volkswagen is working on a new generation Polo hatchback. The new model is expected to debut by the end of this year. Meanwhile, no clear picture has emerged on the car's design so far.

Multiple reports indicate Volkswagen may take inspiration from the new flagship sedan, Arteon, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2017. Based on these reports, autoforum.cz has released two render images of the next gen-Polo based on Arteon. And the images look promising.

Arteon marks a major departure from the current design philosophy of Volkswagen. It has incorporated chrome-plated cross-bars at the grille, giving a contemporary twist to the front-end. The new grille and full-LED headlamp are integrated into a single cluster. This has reflected in the render images of new Polo, giving the car a brand new identity.

The rear, on the other hand, retains same characteristics of the outgoing Polo, but with a modern twist. The addition of chrome and clean line on the body panels adds a sporty touch to the exterior.

Renderings aside, the production spec will be revealed only when it debuts later this year, most probably at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new Polo will ride on VW's shrunken MQB platform. It is expected to be available with an array of both petrol and diesel mills. One or two turbo-charged petrol engines are also in the cards. In India, the Polo is likely to continue with the same engine options of the current model. The top-spec GTI model has been rumored with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that churns out 198bhp.
