Maruti Suzuki is reportedly back at the drawing table to introduce a facelift to its Celerio range in India. The emerging reports suggest that the Celerio is likely to get a mid-life facelift by the end of this financial year.

Maruti has already confirmed that the company is working on to bring at least 4 models to its portfolio in the fiscal as opposed to its strategy of introducing two models in previous financial year. The company has recently added new Dzire compact sedan to its line-up.

A report of AutocarIndia, citing sources close to development suggest that the company is working on the Celerio facelift and the S-Cross facelift apart from the new generation Swift hatchback. As far as the changes in the new Celerio facelift are concerned, it is likely to be limited to visual modifications like the new front grille with chrome embellishment, new front and rear bumpers and new alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the changes are likely to include few additional features, such as a new entertainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, steering-mounted control and new upholstery.

The powertrains are likely to continue as it is. The Celerio is now available only in the petrol engine option. Although Maruti has also been offering the Celerio with diesel engine, the model was discontinued from the range owing to poor sales. The facelifted avatar of the Celerio is also likely to get the same 998cc petrol, which can churn out a power of 67bhp at 6,000rpm and a torque of 90Nm at 3,500rpm. Other details of the Celerio facelift are scanty currently.

Maruti Suzuki launched the Celerio in India in 2014 originally in petrol and CNG variants. Buoyed by the success, the company, within a year, added the diesel model to the Celerio line-up, which was powered by Suzuki's self-developed mill. The Celerio, the first car in India to come with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) and competes against the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 in India.
