2.0 vs Sarkar box office collection: PT Selvakumar says Vijay-starrer is the winner

Vijay's Sarkar and Rajinikanth's 2.0 are the two biggest money spinners in Kollywood. Not just in Tamil Nadu, the films did well outside the state and gave a much-needed relief to the industry which was largely affected by the 48-day Kollywood strke in the first quarter of 2018.

While 2.0 is way ahead of Sarkar at the worldwide box office, there has not been much clarity about the total collections made by the films in their home territory of Tamil Nadu. However, according to PT Selvakumar, filmmaker and former manager of Vijay, it is Thalapathy's film which has performed better than Rajini's flick in the state.

In an interview, PT Selvakumar has stated that Vijay's films have started performing better than Rajinikanth films in recent years. According to him, Mersal and Sarkar have done better business than Kabali, Kaala and 2.0.

"Sarkar collection is higher than 2.0 and anybody can have debates about it with me. I get information from distributors across Tamil Nadu and I am confident about the numbers," PT Selvakumar claimed.

According to him, the openings that both the films got was a clear indication of the eventuality at the Kollywood box office. Rajinikanth's film had earned a little over Rs 18 crore, while Vijay's flick minted over Rs 31 crore on the first day.

However, Sarkar had the advantage of Diwali holiday, a season in which Kollywood witnesses one of the highest theatre footfalls in the year. Later, there were reports that Rajini's film had surpassed the collection of Vijay's flick, thus creating a lot of confusion.
