Overview:

It looks like India are poised for a big first innings total with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay in good touch, ending day 1 on 37 for no loss. Sachin Tendulkar, who is playing his 199th Test match, gave his fans something to cheer about on day 1 by taking a wicket. He will get the chance to bat in the next few days, probably on Thursday.

Mohammad Shami was the star bowler for India, taking four wickets for 71 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin also took two wickets, helping the team pack off the visitors for 234 runs.

West Indies skipper Darren Sammy will not be happy with the performance of batsmen, as they failed to convert good start into big scores. Marlon Samuels was the highest score for the team with 65 runs, followed by Shivnarine Chanderpaul's 36.

Day 2 will witness a good contest between Indian batsmen and West Indies bowlers. India will try to put up a big first innings lead, while the visitors will be looking forward to strike back and take early wickets on Thursday.
