Fame changes people, and may not always bring out the best in them. This plot is all too familiar for someone who's fed on too many sappy Hollywood movies. However, it seems Showtime's "The Affair" will also pursue a storyline that's so old, but so true.

In the TV series' latest episode, Noah is regarded with respect and flirts with a new life that's really a result of fame.

In the promo for Episode 8, the New York based writer attends a book signing function and a young, attractive female fan slips in her number. It's hardly surprising to note that Noah (Dominic West) is not confused when he receives her number. However, it is surprising that he denies it when his ex-wife, Helen (Maura Tierney) talks to him about it.

In another clip, Noah shares a quiet drink with his new found friend, Helen. But he loses his temper when he sees a critic who hasn't given him a favourable review for "Descent."  The impetuous writer if forced to sit down and behave appropriately, but he flares up.

In the promo, Noah approaches the book critic, gets into an altercation but is too drunk to be coherent. He collapses on the floor.

Fans of the show would notice that Noah's attitude in the past few episodes is marked by a new found confidence that's risen from the sucess of his book. A success that welcomes a new, might we add, attractive publicist (Eden) and other women into his life, while he and Alison spend time apart.

Will Noah cheat on Alison (Ruth Wilson)?

Episode 8's synopsis, released by TV Guide reads:

Helen is bewildered by Whitney's future plans; Helen surprises Noah with a difficult admission; Noah faces increased temptations when his fame escalates.
