Vijay's "Thalaivaa" will be screened in more than 1,000 screens worldwide. In Tamil Nadu alone, the film will be releasing in more than 450 screens on 9 August.

The film has received a "U" certificate from the censor board, subject to two minor cuts. It will have a running time of two hours and 50 minutes.

"Thalaivaa", deemed as an action entertainer, is one of the most-anticipated films of 2013. The film is facing strong competition from Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express" at the domestic (Kerala and Karnataka) as well as overseas markets.

The Vijay starrer was also supposed to battle it out with another big film - Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan's "Atharintiki Daaredi". Due to disturbances pertaining to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the producer of "Atharintiki Daaredi" has decided to push the film's release date further. The producer is yet to make an announcement on the fresh release date.

Pawan has a strong market in the US, where Vijay's film also witnesses good business. The delay in the release of Pawan's film could help "Thalaivaa" fetch more screens in domestic (excluding Kerala and Tamil Nadu) and overseas markets.

"Thalaivaa" has a big advantage particularly in the US. As Pawan's film has backed out from the Eid race, screens booked for the film might be alloted to "Thalaivaa".

The film is expected to have a 100 percent occupancy in theatres during the first weekend. The Independence Day weekend could also help in the film's collections, as there are no big Tamil releases during that period.

Directed by AL Vijay, "Thalaivaa" boasts of an interesting star cast including Amala Paul, Sathyaraj, Santhanam and Rajeev Pillai among others.

The film is produced by Chandraprakash Jain under Sri Mishri Productions. Vendhar Movies S Madhan is distributing the film in Tamil Nadu.
