Telugu film "Shadow" has failed to impress not just critics, but also actor Venkatesh's fans.

"Shadow", which received a grand response on the opening day, has been performing poorly at the US box office. The film has earned a total of just ₹16.52 lakh from 52 screens in the opening weekend.

"Telugu film #Shadow is a debacle in USA. Opening weekend: $ 30,511 [₹16.52 lakh]," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

"Shadow's" performace is disastrous when compared with another Telugu movie - "Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde" - which fetched around ₹55 lakh ($103,015) from 23 screens during the first two days of the opening weekend.

Directed by Meher Ramesh, "Shadow" created a pre-release hype thanks to Venkatesh who was doing an action film after a long gap. Moreover, the success of the actor's previous release - "Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (SVSC)" - also generated a lot of expectations for "Shadow".

But the negative reviews that the film garnered from critics (post its release) have had a significant impact on the film's collections. Despite being made on a grand scale, the film has failed to impress the critics for its lack of substance.

"Shadow" has Taapsee Pannu playing the female lead. Comedian M S Narayana appears as a post-mortem specialist. The film's score is composed by S Thaman.

Until now, Venkatesh was all focused on the release of the film. Now that it is out in theatres, the actor will begin his work on other projects. He will soon be seen in the Telugu remake of Bollywood movie "Bol Bachchan". Recently, Venkatesh started the trend of multi-starrers with his film "SVSC" which had popular actor Mahesh Babu playing his younger brother.

He will continue with this trend in "Bol Bachchan" remake which will have Ram playing a significant role. Bollywood actress Shazahn Padamsee and Anjali will play female leads. The yet-to-be titled film will be directed by K Vijaya Bhaskar.
