Directed by RS Prasanna, "Kalyana Samayal Saadham" highlights the rituals and ceremonies followed in a traditional wedding as well as deals with the sensitive subject of impotency.

Raghu Viswanathan (Prasanna) and Meera Chandrasekaran (Lekha Washington), who belong to traditional Brahmin families, get engaged as per their parents' wishes. Their wedding is eight months away and the couple gets enough time to know about each other.

They slowly understand each other and with just one month left for the marriage, they find out that Raghu is impotent. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

Critics have appreciated the performances of the lead actors. They have also showered praises on the director who has dealt with a sensitive subject like impotency in his first film.

The film's cinematography is handled by Krishnan Vasant and editing is done by Sathyaraj. The adult rom-com is produced by Arun Vaidyanathan and Ananth Govindan.

Here is the review roundup of "Kalyana Samal Saadham"

S Saraswathi of Rediff says, "Prasanna deserves special credit for playing a role that most actors would hesitate to take up. Lekha is perfectly cast as the modern bride, who knows exactly what she wants from life and at the same time has a healthy respect for family and traditional values."

"Director R S Prasanna has chosen to handle an extremely sensitive subject with humour rather than being overly dramatic. He also manages to bring in all the fun and excitement of a typical Tamil Brahmin wedding; the Kancheevaram-clad mamis, who love to gossip, and the silk-dhoti mamas, add a nice touch."

According to Behindwoods Review Board, "Primarily, R S Prasanna should be appreciated for his mojo on taking on a subject for his first film that many would think twice. His light hearted treatment of a serious stigmatized social issue which is one of the top reasons for many a marriage to break is noteworthy."

Indiaglitz says, "Though the movie is entertaining on the whole, the story is very short, and not quite a subject to be understood by the little yet important ones in the family. Screenplay is funny and entertaining nevertheless. Arrora's music boosts the comedy appeal at the right places, while Krishnan Vasant and Sathyaraj have brought a real wedding ceremony on screen."

"With little surprises and lots of family confusion, 'Kalayana Samayal Saadham' is a light hearted romantic comedy, complete with the gala of marriage and sincerity of love."

According to entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai, the first half of the film is solid, while the second half droops. However, he appreciated the film's producer for trying out something different.

Verdict: Deals with sensitive subject in a light hearted comedy.
