Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan starrer "Ghanchakkar" has raked in around ₹22 crore in its opening weekend at the domestic box office.

The film's collections were slightly better on Sunday as against the first two days of its release. With the presence of star performers - Emraan and Vidya Balan, "Ghanchakkar" was expected to perform well at the box office. But the film opened to a dull start raking in just ₹7.2 crore on Friday. However, it did better business on Saturday and Sunday fetching a total of approximately ₹22.30 crore nett in its opening weekend.

"#Ghanchakkar collected approx Rs 22.30 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 7.20 cr, Sat 7.30 cr, Sun 7.80 cr," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

"Ghanchakkar" collections were affected by the Punjabi film "Jatt &Juliet- 2" in the north. In south regions, the film was overpowered by "Balupu", starring Telugu actor Ravi Teja and Shruti Haasan.

Despite splendid performances by the lead actors, the romantic comedy thriller directed by Rajkumar Gupta failed to impress the audience owing to its half-baked script and screenplay.

"Ghanchakkar" managed to fetch decent collections in overseas markets. The film's first day collections in the US and Canada were ₹31.43 lakh from 89 screens. In the UK, its collections stood at ₹52.90 lakh for the first two days. In Australia, the film minted ₹15.23 lakh while in New Zealand it fetched ₹3.60 lakh.

The film's collections might dip further when Ranveer-Sonakshi Sinha's much-awaited period romance drama "Lootera" releases this Friday (5 July).
