Parrot Disco, a fixed-wing drone, that was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2016) earlier this year has turned into a reality. It was still a project in its initial stage, then, but managed to draw much attention because of its sleek design and fixed-wing that was not seen till date.

Now, the Paris-based wireless technologies company (Parrot) has announced that Parrot Disco will be made available for purchase in September and it will come with a price tag of $1,299 (around £990/Rs. 87,150). However, the company hasn't revealed the exact release date of the drone and its availability outside the US market. It has been currently listed on Parrot Store.

Parrot Disco comes with Parrot Skycontroller 2, a compact remote control, and Parrot Cockpitglasses, a first-person-view (FPV) headset that enables the user to witness the view in the drone's camera. It gives the users an experience of a pilot in the cockpit of the drone. It can also connect to an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet via the new FreeFlight Pro application, providing the pilot with seamless video streaming.

The drone is user-friendly with automatic takeoff and landing. It can be put into the air by pushing the switch located on the upper part of Disco nose before pressing the 'takeoff/landing' button on the Parrot Skycontroller 2 remote control and tossing it towards the sky. It will stay afloat at an altitude of 164 feet after being launched till the user gives commands. Users must press the 'takeoff/landing' button on the remote control to land.

Made from EPP (expanded Polypropylene) and reinforced with carbon tubes, Parrot Disco weighs just 700 grams (1.6 lb), flies up to 50 mph (80 km/h) and resists winds of 24 mph, and has flight time of about 45 minutes. It can take record video on the 32GB memory fixed in the wing. It also comes packed with sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer and GPS/GLONASS.
