Every year World Day Against Child Labour is observed on June 12 since 2002, when the International Labour Organization (ILO) had initially sanctioned it holiday with the aim to raise awareness and curb this horrendous social evil.

The theme for this year's World Day Against Child Labour is -- In conflicts and disasters, protect kids from child labour -- a noteworthy proportion of around 168 million child labourers are found to live in areas which are impacted by disaster and conflict, un.org revealed.

Children belonging to the age group of five to 17 years, who are involved in work which harms them in social, mental, educational or physical development, it is defined as child labour.

Around 150 million children are indulged into child labour worldwide, which are both paid and unpaid, according to a report by UNICEF. Children who are impacted by this social evil often have to work under hazardous environments while risking their lives in a majority of the cases. Kids even fall prey to violence in a majority of the cases.

The sub-Saharan African region is classified as the area with the highest number of child labour statistics.

Children involved in child labour are forced to carry out tasks ranging from slavery, drug trafficking, involvement in armed conflict and even prostitution.

The UN aims at achieving its Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to tackle the serious issue of child labour and protect children from getting into heinous activities like prostitution, slavery etc by 2030.
