John Lennon is one of the most famous names among rock music fans across the globe. Along with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, also known as "Fab Four," he formed one of the most renowned English rock band of all times "The Beatles."

Born on 9 October, 1940, Lennon was known for his rebellious nature and use of bold and socially challenged themes in his music. He was a prominent supporter of world peace activities that reflected in a number of his works including "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine."

Unfortunately, on 8 December, 1980, he was killed by a mentally unstable person named Mark David Chapman who claimed that Lennon indulged in blasphemy and mocked God. Ironically, Chapman was a huge fan of Lennon and used to idolise him.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the legendary singer, here are five of his most iconic pictures that describe the various aspects of his life.
