The Goldbergs is back with a new season and a new academic year. In season 4 episode 1 of the ABC TV series, Beverly and Murray Goldberg's kids are in for a surprise: Their mother becomes part of their school's staff.
Although the kids believe that they will not be punished as their mother loves nothing but to smother them with cuddles and kisses, they find themselves greatly mistaken. In season 4 episode 1 of The Goldbergs, Beverly gives them detention.
The show's executive producer Adam F. Goldberg told TV Line: "All our kids are stuck in detention because they've mouthed off to Beverly, who's now not just a mom, but a [substitute] teacher [at their school], and she gets them all thrown into detention."
It is at this moment that the TV show pays homage to one of the most popular Hollymood movies of the 80s: The Breakfast Club. Goldberg hinted that fans can expect to see a recreation of some scenes from the film.
He told TV Line that the premiere episode will include the cast members crawling through vents, dancing and bonding during their detention.
Goldberg detailed, "A whole entire act-and-a-half is dedicated to basically Breakfast Club and talking about it and what character from our show is equivalent."
