Lionel Messi Barcelona Espanyol
After winning the Ballon d'Or for a fifth time, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi will be keen to show just why he was crowned the best player in the world with another classy performance against EspanyolReuters

After a fiery first leg encounter, Barcelona will hope their football grabs the headlines when they visit Espanyol for the second leg of the last 16 match of the Copa Del Rey on Wednesday.

Espanyol saw two players receive red cards in an ill-tempered derby match which got a little out of hand, with Barca's Luis Suarez given a three-match suspension as well, following his apparent confrontation with opposing players after the final whistle went.

Barcelona, though, were the much happier side at the end it all, with Lionel Messi scoring two and setting up a couple more to give his team a 4-1 lead from the first leg. Messi, fresh from winning the Ballon d'Or for the fifth time, will again be the man Espanyol will have to keep quiet if they are to stand any chance of producing a stunning comeback.

Such has been Messi's form, that keeping him quiet looks next to impossible at the moment, especially when Barcelona can really express themselves having garnered a sizeable lead from the first leg at the Camp Nou. The last time these two teams met in Espanyol's home ground, Barcelona failed to score in a match which ended 0-0.

The problem for Espanyol, though, is 0-0 will not be enough; the Barcelona players will quite happily walk away with another 0-0, as that result will put them comfortably into the quarterfinals.

"We'll do the same things we did in the previous derbies, which is no different than going out to win," Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who was named the FIFA Coach of the Year, told the club's official website.

"It will be the most attractive of the three derbies because only one of the two teams can move on [to the quarterfinals]. We will go for the win, but will face an opponent that, unlike in other games, will pressure us further up."
