German car-maker Volkswagen is reportedly planning to launch a powerful version of its Polo hatchback — the Polo GTI — in India in the second half of this year. The three-door powerful hatch, which had made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2016 in February, is currently undergoing testing on different terrains across the country.

A report of Oncars.in says the Polo GTI will be launched in India in the second half of 2016 and come as CBUs (completely built units). The car has made quite a few appearances on the web through spy shots and is expected to be priced at over Rs. 20 lakh.

Under the hood, the Polo GTI gets a 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol mill that can churn out 192bhp of power with seven-speed DSG gearbox. As for features, the powerful hatch, which is expected to take on the likes of Fiat Punto Abarth in India, comes with new front and rear bumpers with a GTI badge and LED DRLs, honeycomb-styled radiator grille rear-spoiler, tail light clusters in dark red, a black grained diffuser and chrome dual exhaust tailpipes.

The interior of the car will include a new steering wheel, instrument cluster and sports seats. On the safety front, the Polo GTI will come equipped with ABS, ESP and Hill-hold functions and airbags.

Volkswagen is also expected to bring the Polo Allstar special edition to India this year. The Polo Allstar is the special edition of the Polo hatchback introduced for promotion of the 2016 UEFA European Championship, which is scheduled to kick off in June. It was first showcased at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
