Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani" has mostly been lauded for the direction and flawless performances delivered by the central cast — Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. But s recently-released behind-the-scenes video will give you reasons to appreciate the work that went behind creating the rich and tasteful look of the film.

Done by the NY VFXWAALA, a division of Ajay Devgn Films, the effects are so real that one can hardly make out if a particular visual has been doctored at the editing table. The "Deewani Mastani" and "Rang Do Mohe Laal" songs have been enhanced. The climax scene, where Ranveer is seen raging towards a team of horses, was deft VFX work.

Naveen Paul, one of the heads of the division, told Box Office India how the team got rolling on the idea of the period film and the briefing they got.

"Bajirao Mastani is a period film and he had a vision. He shot the film and there were scenes where you required thousands of soldiers but you can't shoot with so many people. That's when VFX steps in. Also, you cannot fool the audience, so the VFX should do justice to the storyline. What we did was just give his story a visual effect. He was very clear about what he wanted; he shot every scene on real locations and we added what could not be added on the sets. His brief was to stay real to the storyline," the trade website quoted him as saying.

Interestingly, the VFX company has also shared a behind-the-scenes footage of Shah Rukh Khan's "Dilwale." Some of the major action scenes, which were shot at real locations, were given a slight digital touch. The one scene, in which Varun Dhawan spins his wheels around a monument of sorts, is computerised. Also, the chase scene in Bulgaria was filmed on camera, but was enhanced a tad.
