The misery on Chelsea and Jose Mourinho was piled further after another Leicester City quick-attacking-verve masterclass consigned the English Premier League champions to their ninth league defeat this season.

Talk about Chelsea turning a corner was turned to dust by Leicester, who sprang back up to the Premier League summit with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the King Power Stadium.

The usual suspects were the goalscorers again, as Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez continued their stunning form, which moved Leicester two points clear of second-placed Arsenal.

Chelsea pulled a goal back via Loic Remy, 13 minutes from time, but, despite a decent spell of pressure towards the end, the team that deserved to win, won in the end.

After a bright start, Leicester got their due reward in the 34th minute, with Mahrez the creator and Vardy the expert finisher. The Leicester City winger, who has been just as electric as his striker this season, floated in a cross from the right with his left foot, and there was Vardy ghosting in between two Chelsea defenders to volley home from six yards.

It was 2-0 three minutes into the second half, when Mahrez showed superlative skill with his left foot, to bend one into the top corner from an acute angle.

Chelsea pulled one back in the 77th minute as substitute Remy headed in from close range off a left-wing cross from Pedro Rodriguez, but that was all she wrote for the champions, who sunk to their ninth defeat in the Premier League this season, a defeat which leaves them just a point adrift of the relegation zone.
