"The Vampire Diaries" is yet to decide what to do with Ian Somerhalder's Damon and Michael Malarkey's Enzo in Season 8. The previous season of the vampire drama saw the duo going on a killing spree after the creature inside the vault corrupted their minds and removed all traces of goodness in them.

The next season will see Bonnie [Kat Graham], Caroline [Candice Accola] and Stefan [Paul Wesley] going on a mission to find Enzo and Damon, but it won't be an easy task as Bonnie does not have magical powers now. But Alaric, who is a vampire hunter, could be of use.

"I'm interested in seeing how Alaric plays into bringing Damon and Enzo back from the dark side. And how quick or slow they will be in finding them and waking them up," Accola was quoted as saying Melty.

Meanwhile, there is a lot of speculation on the creature that was hidden in the vault. Fans have come up with a number of theories on what's in the closet, with a majority saying it's a Malach, a race of creatures that possesses the undead. In "The Vampire Diaries" novel, Malach were used by characters Misao and Shinichi to possess Damon and Caroline.

Season 8 of "The Vampire Diaries" will air this fall, and there are chances that the upcoming season could be the series finale. If so, then Nina Dobrev's character Elena, who is currently in a magic induced sleep, will return to the land of the living and fans can expect a reunion between Elena and Damon.

Dobrev left "The Vampire Diaries" after Season 6 to pursue other projects in Hollywood. "She was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she's doing a great job of achieving that. So I'm sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end," showrunner Julie Plec told TVLine.
