US box office collection: 'Brahmotsavam' becomes 4th-highest-grossing film for Mahesh Babu

"Brahmotsavam" has hit another new low at the US box office on its second Friday. The movie has become the fourth-highest-grossing film for superstar Mahesh Babu.

"Brahmotsavam" opened to huge response in North America, but went into a spiral over the weekend. The movie showed huge drops everywhere in the country on the weekdays. The film collected $1,097,294 (Rs. 7.34 crore) at the U.S. box office in the first week of its release.

There were no big-ticket releases from the Telugu film industry, and the Srikanth Addala-directed film was expected to do well in its second week. But "Brahmotsavam" remained on the lower side, with its second Friday collection reaching $12,693 at the U.S. box office. Taran Adarsh tweeted: "Telugu film #Brahmotsavam - Week 2 - USA: Fri $ 12,693. Total: $ 1,109,987 [₹ 7.44 cr]. @Rentrak. [sic]"

Mahesh Babu's last outing "Srimanthudu" collected $2.88 million at the U.S. box office in its lifetime. After seeing its hype and promotions, trade analyst had predicted that "Brahmotsavam" would beat this record and also become the second South Indian film to cross the $3-million mark at the US box office after SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali: The Beginning."

"Brahmotsavam" has become the fifth film of Mahesh Babu to surpass the $1 million mark at the U.S. box office. The movie is now the fourth-highest grosser of his career. Here is the list of top five highest grossing films of Prince in the country.
