Jayam Ravi and Arvind Swamy starrer "Thani Oruvan" has opened to highly positive reviews from the audience and critics. The Tamil film has also registered a good opening at the Tamil Nadu box office.

The initial reports had indicated that "Thani Oruvan" had opened to low expectations. But, good reviews from the cine-goers helped the movie to perform well on the release day.

The morning and the matinee shows witnessed above 45-55% turnout in theatres in Tamil Nadu. However, the occupancy took a surprising jump in the evening shows. In Chennai, the movie crossed 75% occupancy in the prime-time shows.

"Thani Oruvan" was released in 350+ theatres in Tamil Nadu. The estimated collection of the film on the release day is said to be Rs 4.50 crore. However, the official figure is yet to be released. The Tamil movie was released in some overseas circuits on Thursday evening, 27 August, and the film was received well by the audience abroad.

The latest film is the third release of the year for Jayam Ravi. While his "Romeo Juliet" had got mixed reviews and performed well at the collection centres, "Sakalakala Vallavan" failed to keep the cash register ringing after getting negative reviews.

However, "Thani Oruvan" has been praised a lot by the critics as well as the audience. A movie rarely gets appreciated from all sections of audience and this movie is one such film that has managed to win the audience's hearts.

The business is expected to see a steady rise in the weekend following the good word-of-mouth. The worldwide business is expected to cross the Rs 20-crore mark in the opening weekend.

"Thani Oruvan" is written by SuBha and directed by Ravi's brother Jayam Raja, who was known for his remake films. But, "Thani Oruvan" has changed the perception of the audience about him, acquiring a new identity.
