The dream of a 30-year-old man, Lakhan Manoj, from Telangana, India, coupled with the prevailing superstition resulted in something bizarre! A national highway was wrecked because Manoj dreamt of Shiva ling's presence at that particluar location.

When superstition wrecked a highway
The Hyderabad-Warangal National Highway was dug up near Pembarthy village, in Telangana's Jangaon district after Manoj claimed that Lord Shiva appeared in his dream and asked him to excavate his Lingam from a particular spot, a report by The Hindu revealed. He even stated that Lord Shiva asked for a temple to be built in that very location.
According to a report by India Today, this 30-year-old is a self-confessed "godman". What made this ridiculous situation worse was when the sarpanch (village head) Balne Siddu Lingam, municipal vice-chairman Nagarapu Venkat and the villagers blindly believed him & actively participated in this hunt for the Shiva ling. The crowd ended up digging the national highway to have a look at the non-existent Shiv-ling.
"Manoj is an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and has been getting this dream since three years. He asked us to help him dig up the spot and construct the temple. He used to conduct prayers at this location every Monday. As Manoj swooned in excitement at this spot we believed him," the sarpanch said, as quoted by The Hindu.
The reports revealed that the highway was dug up to about 20 feet deep! The video portraying this instance shows the "godman" shaking, shivering and chanting Lord Shiva's name, directing the people to dig further while adding some more element of his weirdness to the incident.
The illegal digging resulted in a traffic jam on the highway and by the time the crowd ralized their folly it was too late. The highway was dug up!
Soon the Jangaon police arrived & stopped the people from wrecking the national highway further and arrested Manoj, the village head and some others for damaging the public property.
