The long wait for Tata Motors' much-anticipated Zest sedan will end today. The company will officially unveil the new Zest in the country on Tuesday (12 August) at an event in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Tata Zest was first seen at Delhi Auto Expo 2014 and since then the auto aficionados in the country have been on tenterhooks to see this vehicle on the roads.

Today the wait is ending. All those who have been waiting to lay their hands on the steering wheels of Zest can now book theirs. The company has already started accepting the bookings for the new Zest sedan in the country with an advance payment of ₹21,000.

Zest is Tata's latest launch after the company's least expensive car Nano, and hence the expectations are also high. It is India's first sedan with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

Though the company has decisively kept the key details of the car under the wraps till now, the word around the web world is that Zest will come loaded with projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, 15-inch alloy wheels, reverse parking sensor and corner stability control. On the safety front, the sedan is likely to offer dual airbags, ABS and EBD.

The car will be offered in both petrol and diesel engines in India. The petrol model will pack 1.2 litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that can churn out 85 PS at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 140 Nm at 1,750-3,000 rpm.

Meanwhile, the diesel model of Zest will get power from a 1.3 litre Quadrajet motor, which can churn out 90 PS power at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm torque at 1,750-3,000 rpm. The diesel engine will come mated to a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) and the petrol motor transmission is likely to come from only a five-speed manual gearbox.

It is also expected to come with attractive price tag as the Tata hopes to embrace a new journey in the Indian auto market with the launch of new sedan and its Bolt hatchback. Once Zest in the market, the car will be fighting out with the current front runners like Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze.

The price of Tata Zest is likely to fall in the range of ₹6 lakh-₹8 lakh.
