The organising committee for Winter Olympics 2018 appointed South Korean actor Lee Min Ho as an honorary ambassador on Friday, 25 September.

"The Heirs" star joined the list of popular sports personalities such as US skier Lindsey Vonn, Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, former Olympic speed skating gold medalist Choo Shin-soo and former Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na.

Announcing the name of the honorary ambassador, the organising committee spokesperson said (via Allkpop), "As much as the '2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics', the '2010 Tokyo Summer Olympics', and the '2022 Beijing Winter Olympics' are being consecutively held in Asia, Hallyu star Lee Min Ho has been entrusted to be the honorary ambassador."

Meanwhile, Min Ho said that it is a great opportunity for him and he will do his best to promote Winter Olympics 2018. "I personally enjoy sports like skiing and surfing, so I have a lot of interest in the Olympics. From now on I will take the lead as the honorary ambassador for the 'Pyeongchang Winter Olympics'," he said.

The XXIII Winter Olympics, also known as PyeongChang 2018, will be held at PyeongChang in Gangwon province of South Korea from 9-25 February.
