Sony's next move is quite predictable, like every other smartphone maker in 2016. The Japanese tech giant will unleash the Xperia Z6 series, comprising of various models ranging from premium to affordable mid-range devices. In a fresh leak out of China, Sony is reportedly planning a surprise move by launching an unexpected variant of Xperia Z6 dubbed as "Lite" that will target the affordable segment.

Sony Xperia Z6 Lite will take on mid-range devices in the market with a price range estimated around $385, which approximately translates to Rs. 25,500, reported BGR, citing a Chinese publication Mobile-Dad.

According to the report, the Xperia Z6 Lite will feature a 5-inch display, filling the gap between Xperia Z6 Compact and the Xperia Z6. Earlier rumours indicated that Sony will launch five variants in the Xperia Z6 series, including Xperia Z6 with 5.2-inch display, Xperia Z6 Compact with 4.6-inch display, Xperia Z6 Plus with 5.8-inch display, Xperia Z6 Mini with 4-inch screen and finally the 6.4-inch Xperia Z6 Ultra. But a recent report citing T-Mobile's roadmap erased Xperia Z6 Mini from existence, GSM Arena reported

The Xperia Z6 Lite, however, is certainly going to be a new variant in Sony's 2016 smartphone line-up.

The Chinese source also revealed that the Xperia Z6 Lite will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor. The mid-range smartphone will incorporate major Sony design values and feature a metal back-cover.

There is no information on when the Xperia Z6 Lite will be released but Sony will make an appearance at the CES 2016 press conference in January where more details are likely to emerge. Until then, it's best to take this rumour with a pinch of salt as there are no verified sources at the moment.
