Soggade Chinni Nayana fares well; Express Raja hits rock bottom at US box office in 4th weekend

Akkineni Nagarjuna's Sankranti release "Soggade Chinni Nayana" (SCN) has raked in good figures at the US box office in its fourth weekend, while its counterpart "Express Raja" hit rock bottom.

Films such as "Ghayal Once Again", "Sanam Teri Kasam", "Visaaranai", "Bangalore Naatkal", "Action Hero Biju" and "Speedunnodu" hit screens across North America on Feb.5. The trade experts in T-town predicted that these new releases would stall the collection of "Soggade Chinni Nayana" and "Express Raja" by pushing them out of theatres in their fourth week.

"Soggade Chinni Nayana" had 18 screens in its third week and managed to retain seven theatres in the country in its fourth week. The Nagarjuna starrer has collected $5,414 from seven screens at the US box office in its fourth weekend. Its per-screen average stands at $773. The movie has collected a total of $837,089 (Rs 5.69 crore) in the US in 24 days, but it will not be able to cross the mark of $1 million.

"Express Raja" was running in 11 cinema halls in its third week and had collected an average of $1,160 per screen in its third weekend. But the Sharwanand starrer has been forced out of most of the theatres in the country in the fourth week and its collection has dipped considerably.

In its fourth weekend, "Express Raja" collected $339 from two screens at the US box office, taking its 25-day total collection to $415,449 (Rs 2.83 crore). Its per-screen average stands at $169. The movie was expected to cross the half-million-dollar mark in its life time in the country, but it has failed to achieve the feat.

While "Nannaku Prematho" topped the US business chart for the Telugu movie, "Soggade Chinni Nayana" and "Express Raja" have landed in the third and fourth places respectively in their fourth weekend.
