Becoming a heroine has not been a big deal for many girls in Tollywood, but sustaining there for long has been a big challenge for them. Some have moved to find work in the small screen industry, while some others got married and settled down in life after the offers stopped coming their way. But shockingly, a few have got into prostitution racket to earn their livelihood.
In recent years, we have heard about some actresses, who have been caught red-handed, while they were engaged in the flesh trade. Most of them have admitted that the lack of offers forced them to take up sex trade as a profession. Many in the industry were shocked to learn this fact about the actresses.
On 6 September 2014, actress Divya Sri, who has starred in the Telugu film B Tech Babu, was arrested over her involvement in sex trade. She was caught red-handed, when the Guntur police raided a house in the suburban area of the city. "Lack of success and financial problems are being cited as the reasons behind the actress being sucked into the flesh trade," according to Deccan Chronicle.
Just a week before Divya Sri, actress Shweta Basu Prasad was caught in the prostitution act, when the Hyderabad Police raided a famous hotel at Banjara Hills on 31 August. Her shocking confession before the police created a huge debate about sad plight of the actresses in the film industry and some stars, who had worked with her in the past, raised voice against media for writing bad things about her.
Shweta Basu Prasad had said she had got into the sex trade because she did not have money to support her family. "All the doors were closed, and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money. I was helpless, and with no option left to choose, I got involved in this act," Deccan Chronicle had quoted the statement she made before the police officials.
The actress had added, "I'm not the only one who faced this problem, and there are several other heroines who have gone through this phase."
As she said, there are some actresses like Yamuna, Bhuvaneswari, Jyothi, Kinnera, Aish Ansari and Sravani, who were caught in the flesh trade and some of them were even booked under the prostitution charges.
