Overseas box office collection: 'Love Punjab,' 'Ardaas' fail to beat 'Sardaar Ji' international records

Punjabi movies "Love Punjab" and "Ardaas" have done superb collection at the overseas box office in the first weekend. Their business is much bigger than many Bollywood movies in key international markets like Australia and New Zealand.

"Love Punjab," starring Amrinder Gill, Sargun Mehta and Manvir Johal, has got a superb opening, collecting approximately $860,659 from 89 screens at the U.S. box office in the first weekend. The movie has not only beaten the opening weekend record of "Sardaar Ji" in Australia and New Zealand, but also performed better than "Airlift" and "Bajirao Mastani" in Australia.

"Ardaas" has also received decent response at key international markets. The Gippy Grewal-directed movie has collected approximately $441,028 (Rs 2.97 crore) from 61 screens at the overseas box office in the first weekend. Its performance is much better than many recent Punjabi releases.

The per-screen average of "Love Punjab" and "Ardaas" stand at $9,670 and $7,229, respectively. The average business of "Love Punjab" is bigger than that of "Sardaar Ji," which holds the record of the highest-grossing Punjabi film in the international markets, but it has failed to beat the first-weekend record of the latter. 

"Sardaar Ji" has collected $930,388 (Rs 5.91 crore) from 106 screens at the overseas box office, and its per-screen average stands at $8,777.
