Fans are eagerly waiting for the second season of popular anime series "Overlord," and according to several rumours, it seems that they won't have to wait for long as the next season might air in second half of 2016. The rumours also state that the upcoming instalment will be based on "Overlord" manga volumes 4 to 6.

"Overlord" tells the story of a video game player who gets stuck in a video game where the world is continuously changing. The synopsis of the series on Overlord Wikia reads:

"In the year 2138, virtual reality gaming is booming. YGGDRASIL is a popular online game which is quietly shut down one day for unknown reasons. However, one player named Momonga decides not to log out.

"As the game shuts down, Momonga is transformed into his avatar of a skeleton wizard and becomes 'the most powerful magic caster in the world.' As the world continues to change, non-player characters (NPCs) develop conscience and begin to feel emotions.

"Having no parents, friends, or place in society, Momonga decides to conquer the new world the game has become."

Season 1 of "Overlord" was a direct adaptation of Kugane Maruyama's light novels of same name and ran for 13 episodes from July 7 to Sep. 29, 2015. According to Yibada, the anime series was rated 8.12 out of 10 by the viewers and fans.

Yibada has stated that the possibility of "Overlord" Season 2 depends significantly on the ratings of Season 1 on online streaming websites such as J-One and Anime Digital Network. Only a positive ranking might encourage the production company, Madhouse, to consider renewing the series.

First season of "Overlord" anime covered manga volumes 1 to 3. Hence, if Season 2 happens, most probably it will cover volumes 4 to 6, as speculated by several fans across the Internet.
