A woman suffering from mental health issues caused an outrage after she ran naked in front of Jerusalem's holy Western Wall near the men's section on Sunday. The 23-year-old woman is said to be a resident of Jerusalem.

According to eyewitnesses, the unnamed woman first entered the women's section, got undressed and then walked towards the men's section. Witnesses claimed the woman wanted to cause provocation in the holy place.

In a YouTube video, the woman is seen walking towards the men's section. The footage also shows women with clothes rushing towards the naked woman to cover her. Security personnel and guards detained her near the entrance of men section and covered her.

"She came in clothed and at some stage took off her clothes. She seemed to be determined as if she wanted to cause a provocation," one witness told Israel's Channel 2. "People started to scream and cry and when she started moving toward the men's section she was stopped by force."

The detained woman's parents told police that she suffers from mental health issues. Police later took her for a psychological evaluation.

The Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City is one of the last remaining parts of the second Jewish temple.

Men and women's section are separated at the Western Wall for prayers under the strict interpretation of Jewish law. A separate section at the extreme right corner of the wall is reserved for women for prayers.

Recently, US President Donald Trump, his wife Melania Trump and daughter Ivanka Trump visited the holy site.
