"Oopiri" has made superb collections at the U.S. box office in the first weekend, smashing the opening weekend business record of Nagarjuna's "Manam" and "Soggade Chinni Nayana."

"Oopiri," which stars Nagarjuna, Karthi and Tamannaah Bhatia, has been one of the most hyped Telugu movies of 2016. Its promos had generated a lot of curiosity before the film's release. PVP Cinema, which has bankrolled the film, distributed the film in 98 screens in North America, where Nagarjuna has got a tremendous fan following. Trade experts had predicted that it would become the biggest opener for the actor, beating all his previous records.

The Vamsi Paidipally-directed movie was premiered in several cinema halls across the country Thursday night, when it collected $76,635. "Oopiri" opened to a massive response and collected $210,281 at the U.S. box office on the first day. It broke the opening day record of "Soggade Chinni Nayana," and became the second biggest opener for Nagarjuna after "Manam."

The movie received positive response from the audience and saw a surge of crowds on Saturday and Sunday. "Oopiri" has collected $904,366 (Rs 6.02 crore) at the U.S. box office in the first weekend. Its business was expected to cross $1-million mark in three days, but the movie has failed to do that.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh ‏tweeted, "Telugu film #Oopiri has a SENSATIONAL opening weekend, grossing IMPRESSIVE numbers in USA. All set to cross $ 1 million..." He added, "Telugu film #Oopiri - USA: Thu previews $ 76,635, Fri $ 210,281, Sat $ 361,247, Sun $ 256,203. Total: $ 904,366 [₹ 6.02 cr]. WOW! @Rentrak"
