RJD chief Lalu Prasad has named Nitish Kumar as chief ministerial candidate from the Janata Parivar combine for the September-October Bihar assembly election.

The decision was announced by the leaders of the Janata Dal-United, Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Samajwadi Party on Monday.

The former constituent parties of the erstwhile Janata Dal alongwith the Janata Dal-Secular, Indian National Lok Dal and Samajwadi Janata Party have announced a merger to revive the united Janata Dal.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad said he agreed with the decision as no one in his family was interested in the post. "No one in my family, or the RJD is interested in the chief ministerial post...," Lalu Prasad said at a press conference on Monday.

SP supremo Mulayam Singh also supported Bihar Chief Minister and JD-U leader Nitish Kumar's as chief ministerial nominee for the Bihar elections.

Lalu Prasad emphasised that the Janata Parivar parties should stay united. "It is the need of the hour that we all get united to stop the BJP," Lalu Prasad added.
