Amid speculations on the release date of Google's upcoming flagship smartphone, dubbed Nexus 6 aka Nexus X, eBay has once again cut the price of Nexus 5, creating curiosity among gadget lovers, if the new much-awaited device is arriving.

The 16GB variant of Nexus 5 (unlocked) is being sold at $315 on eBay, against the original price of $349.99. The price of the smartphone (white colour) has been reduced by $34.99, along with the free shipping offer.

It may be recalled the same carrier had put up the 16GB variant of the device (unlocked) on sale at $314.99 earlier last month, before stopping the offer by putting up a "SOLD" tag on the website after a few hours. It claimed the deal was closed after selling 2,000 units of the handset with a discounted price.

Interestingly, the price of Nexus 5 remains the same on Google Play at $314.99, hinting that the carrier might have resorted to such a move to deplete the current stock, ahead of the arrival of Nexus 6 aka Nexus X.

Google has not reduced the price of Nexus 5, despite Nexus 6 aka Nexus X set for release soon. It is still going strong in the smartphone market despite its age as it has good specifications.

The device sports a 4.95-inch display, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with 1080 x 1920 pixels (445 ppi pixel density), powered by Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset and runs on Android OS v4.4 (KitKat). It has a 16/32 GB internal memory and 2GB RAM, non-removable Li-Po 2300 mAh battery, and an 8MP camera with autofocus, optical image stabilisation and LED flash.

Meanwhile, Google Inc. is expected to release its new device Nexus 6 aka Nexus X this fall. The company's vice president Sundar Pichai said at the Mobile World Congress 2014 (MWC 2014) that the device would be announced in October but did not provide any details. However, Inferse website reported that the device would be unveiled on 31 October.

There are conflicting reports on the specifications of the device. According to 9to5Google, Nexus 6 aka Nexus X may sport a 5.92-inch display with QHD resolution of 2560x1440 (498 ppi), powered by a Snapdragon 805 processor, and runs on Android L OS. It is also expected to come packed with 32GB internal memory and 3GB of RAM, house a 3,200 mAh battery and have a 13 MP main camera and a 2 MP front snapper.

However, Antutu benchmark claimed that the new device will sport a 5.2-inch screen with 1440x2560p resolution (565 ppi pixel density), powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with CPU speed close to 2.5GHz. It added that it will come packed with 3GB RAM and 13MP rear camera and a 2.1MP front snapper.
