Sibiraj's "Naaigal Jaakirathai" has received good reviews from the critics.

Directed by Shakti Sounder Rajan, "Naaigal Jaakirathai" is a comedy thriller, which has Sibiraj, Idoh and a Belgian Shepard dog in the lead roles. The film's story deals with the relationship between a police officer and his military-trained dog.

Plot: Sibiraj's wife gets kidnapped and how he traces her with the help of the dog forms the crux of the story.

Critics have stated that the film is a regular revenge drama but is engaging with an impressive performance by Sibiraj and Idoh. The chemistry between the hero and the dog is the major highlight of the film. The technical aspects of the film, including the BGM by Dharan Kumar, Nizar Shafi's cinematography and Praveen KL's editing have fetched positive feedback from the critics.

"First, kudos to director Shakti for coming up with a simple yet an unique script. The screenplay was coherent and gripping. The cute portions between Sibi and Idoh and the ferocious side of Idoh was neatly portrayed. There was this sense of connectivity between the scenes. Every scene had an important role to play and there were not many slack portions. Overall, a very well written script," said Rakesh Reddy of Cinemalead.

"Shakti Rajan's second feature 'Naaigal Jaakirathai' is a fun and interesting thriller made with sensible, non-nonsense approach. It's not very often we witness dog-centric films in Tamil cinema. The premise is intriguing. The execution is not so cliff-hanging but is nevertheless satisfying," said Surendhar MK of OnlyKollywood.

"An interesting premise and a definite welcome addition to the diverse nature of films that has been hitting the screens recently. A little more tightening of the screws and the bark would have been more loud and clear," according to movie crow.

"There are only two actors that hog the screen with their performance most of the time - Sibiraj as Karthik and Idoh the K9 as Subramani. Being passionate to dogs comes naturally to dog lovers, and given that Sibi owns three, it would have taken him a lot to act as though he is scared of the dog on screen," according to Indiaglitz.

"The bond that the man and animal share seems natural; this makes the story believable, given that it primarily revolves around this bonding. The screen sports Sibi as a chic and fit police officer, perfectly complimenting as a German Shepherd owner. Idoh, on the other hand, is a real hero and actor. Kudos to his trainer and his quick grasping capabilities," the website stated.

"Shakti Soundar Rajan's idea of making an investigation thriller along with the fun elements of a dog is laudable but what lacks in the film is detailing of characters. Naaigal Jaakirathai's major strength is the dog Idoh and the interesting elements surrounding it, once the main plot gets unleashed we are left only with abrupt narrations," said Rajasekar S of Sify.
