Ranbir Kapoor, who recently made the headlines for being approached by filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani to play the lead role in actor Sanjay Dutt's biopic, has finally given his nod to the film.

With this deal, Ranbir will now, reportedly portray the life, success and struggles of the "Munna Bhai MBBS" star in the biopic.

Dutt charmed the silver screen in 1980s with his muscular looks and since then has been entertaining his fans with his stupendous work in movie genres ranging from romance to comedy. The popular actor is currently serving his jail term due to his alleged involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blast case.

"Hirani is very happy. He now has an interesting story to tell and a talented actor to say it with. Ranbir, like Sanju, is the darling of the masses. But it's not going to be an easy story to depict," a source told The Times of India.

"Portraying Sanju sir on screen is a big task. And it comes with a huge responsibility. He's had a very entertaining, engaging, and a roller-coaster kind of a life. I think Raju sir himself hasn't decided if he wants to do it or not," the "Barfi" star had earlier told Hindustan Times.

Aamir Khan to Replace Arshad Warsi in Sanjay Dutt's 'Munna Bhai 3'?

While Hirani and Dutt have been friends ever since they worked together in their blockbuster "Munna Bhai" series, Ranbir and Dutt shared a great bond since the "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" actor's childhood.

Considering the fact that Dutt, lovingly called as Sanju Baba, has a huge fan-following and Kapoor who is the new age heart-throb, the biopic will undoubtedly make a tremendous buzz and will rule the box office.

Interestingly, Ranbir's grandfather, renowned actor Raj Kapoor and Dutt's mother actress Nargis were apparently in a romantic relationship during the 1950s. The couple starred in several films including "Awaara" (1951) and "Shree 420" (1955).

Meanwhile, Hirani is busy with the post production work of "PK" starring Aamir Khan and will only concentrate on the biopic after he wraps up Khan's film. "PK" also has Dutt play an important role.

On the other hand, Ranbir is currently shooting for his next "Jagga Jasoos" opposite alleged girlfriend Katrina Kaif.
