Malayalam cinema is set to witness a clash between some of its leading stars, courtesy simultaneous releases of their movies.
Actors Mohanlal and Indrajith will have release of their movie "Rasam" on 23 January, while Prithviraj and Fahadh Fassil, whose respective movies "Picket 43" and "Mariyaam Mukku" are releasing on the same day, making it both interesting and tough at the same time.
The releases are expected to give some relief to Malayalam cinema, which has seen lacklustre business during the past few months. Even the festival season of Christmas and New Year was dull, with poor theatre occupancy and release of below-average movies.
With the release of the three movies, movie buffs are expecting fresh concepts and varied genres.
"Rasam" directed by Rajeev Nath is touted to be an entertainer, which talks about food and food tasting. The film will explore the aesthetics involved in food making and food tasting. The movie will see Mohanlal play the superstar himself.
Indrajith will play the lead role of Balu, a restaurant owner and a M Tech graduate. His father Guruvayoor Thirumeni (Nedumudi Venu), is a famous Namboothiri cook and is known for the delicacies he prepares; he is invited to Dubai to cook for the marriage of businessman RJ Menon's daugther, played by debutant Varuna Shetty.
Indrajith joins his father as chef for the wedding and what follows is a series of interesting encounters.
"Mariyam Mukku", as the title suggests, is a romantic entertainer and is set in the seashore village of Mariyam Mukku, a historically significant village that follows a peculiar Latin American culture. The movie is directorial debut of popular script writer James Albert.
The trailer of the movie suggest that it is going to be a visual treat.Unlike his usual appearances, Fahadh will be seen in a mass role where he will be seen doing stunt and dance sequences. He plays the role of Albert, a fisherman and Sana Altaf plays Fahadh's love interest Salomi in the movie.The teaser of the movie has also given a hint that movie has some high dose of romance in it.
"Mariyam Mukku" also has Aju Varghese Manoj K Jayan, Joy Mathew, Prathap Pothen, Nedumudi Venu, Neeraj Madhav, Nandu, Sadiq, Sreejith Ravi, Irshad, Pashanam Shaji, Devi Ajith, Suja, Seema G Nair and Meena Ganesh.
The long wait for Prithviraj fans is nearing its end with the release of "Picket 43". The movie, which is directed by Major Ravi, is one of the most expected films of the year. The trailer of the movie had received an overwhelming response from the audience and has raised hopes.
In the movie, Prithviraj will play the role of Hawaldar Harindran who is posted alone in the dangerous terrain of an Indian army picket, Picket 43, known for regular ceasefire violations. Harindran meets Pakistani soldier Mushraff (Javed Jaffrey) on the other side of the border. Both share a great bond soon, despite the tensions between the two countries.
The movie talks about the hardship that these two soldiers face in the border and the special bond which Haridran shares with his lone companion Baccardi, a dog. The makers claim that the movie is about love, friendship, patriotism and a soldier's struggle to protect his motherland.
The movie also has star cast of Renji Panicker, Sudheer Karamana, Sreerag Nambiar, Haresh Peradi and Anu Mohan in lead roles.
