India is booming with budget smartphones as more and more tech companies enter the wildly growing market with ease. After Xiaomi, China-based smartphone vendor Meizu is looking to take advantage of the demand for budget phones in India with its Meizu M1. The phablet offers a fresh design with competitive specs and features, enough to challenge the successful Micromax Yu Yureka and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G.

To see where the new Meizu M1 stands in terms of specs and features, we compare the new handset with Micromax Yu Yureka and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G. The side-by-side comparison will also help buyers choose which handset better fits their needs.

Display

In terms of screen size, all three phones are measured equally at 5.5 inches diagonally. But Meizu M1 has an advantage over Micromax Yu Yureka and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G with a Full HD 1,920x1,080 pixel resolution. The Yureka and Redmi Note pack individual 720p displays with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. In addition, Micromax offers oleophobic coating to prevent finger-print smudges.

Processor

Micromax and Xiaomi go with Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors while Meizu is powered by a MediaTek chip. The Yu Yureka smartphone is powered by the recent 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor clocking speeds at 1.7GHz and the Xiaomi smartphone uses a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor.

RAM and Storage

All three phones have equal 2GB RAM backing up the processor with sizable storage for the price it offers. You can expand the memory up to 32GB on each phone in addition to the 16GB built-in storage. Xiaomi Redmi Note, however, packs 8GB onboard storage.

Camera

Buyers will not be losing out on the extensive camera capabilities regardless of the smartphone they choose. Micromax, Xiaomi and Meizu have added a powerful 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 5mp front facing snapper for great selfies.

Battery

Lasting battery is one of the most-demanded features in all smartphones. Thankfully, all phones in this comparison have massive batteries. The Micromax uses the smallest of all, at 2,500mAh battery, while Xiaomi offers a better stand with its 3,100mAh battery. Meizu, on the other hand, packs slightly improved 3,140mAh battery. But the high-resolution display in Meizu M1 may not allow the handset to extend the phone's life by a huge margin.

Verdict

It has been seen that all phones have almost identical specs and features. Meizu offers a fresh design, mostly resembles the iPhone 5C, and is also a new handset in the market. Micromax and Xiaomi have already established a market in India, giving them the added advantage of people's trust. Xiaomi is low on built-in storage for those who do not add a micro SD card while Micromax and Meizu offer twice the onboard storage.

We find Meizu M1 as a great addition for the Indian budget phone market and consumers looking for something new can go with the Chinese maker. But customers will have to wait until later this month for the pricing and availability details to be announced. The Yureka handset is the cheapest 4G smartphone in the market at ₹8,999 asking price, while Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G charges ₹1,000 extra for improved battery.
