Zuckerberg first met Chan at a party hosted by his fraternity in Harvard in 2003, and the couple started dating since then.

Chan's Facebook page shows that she is married to Zuckerberg. She joined the social networking site February 5, 2004.

According to her profile on Facebook , she is a native of Braintree, Massachusetts, and attended high school in nearby Quincy.

Chan, a Chinese-American fellow student, graduated from Harvard in 2007 and had worked as a 4th and 5th Grade Science Teacher at the Harker School in San Jose for two years before joining the UCSF medical school.

Her profile says that she loves cooking and photography.

In September 2010, Zuckerberg and Chan moved together to his rented Palo Alto house.

In 2010, Zuckerberg accompanied Chan to China, and for that trip, he studied the Chinese language every morning. The holiday also included some business meetings, which sparked whirlwind rumors about Facebook's interests in the Chinese market.

On March 20, 2011, she updated her status on Facebook to "In a relationship with Mark Zuckerberg."

Chan got graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, on May 14, the same day when Zuckerberg celebrated his 28 birthday. On Chan's graduation day, Zuckerberg posted his Facebook page, "I am so proud of you Dr Chan."
