LG is reportedly planning to launch its 2016 flagship a day ahead of the MWC event in Barcelona, which runs 22-25 February, despite the fear of being overshadowed by Samsung Galaxy S7's release. LG G5 is expected to feature top-of-the-line specs and take on its rival Galaxy S7.

LG has sent out invites for a press event on 21 February, which is the same day Samsung is rumoured to be launching its Galaxy S7. South Korea-based electronics manufacturer LG is planning to take a fresh approach this time, and company execs share the optimism.

"The unveiling of LG's new flagship handset was delayed months after the release of the new Samsung flagship handset. But this year will be different. LG Electronics is ready to take on Samsung," an unnamed LG executive was quoted as saying by Korea Times.

LG skipped prominent mobile-centric event MWC last year for fear of being overshadowed by Samsung, which launched its flagships series to gain maximum attention. It appears LG has some big plans in store for this year's G5 smartphone.

Specifications

Rumours about LG G5 have been circulating for quite some time now. Earlier on Monday, a new leak of HTTP user agent profile of a new LG device carrying the model number LG-H830 surfaced online. The leaked document also revealed the device ran Android 6.0 Marshmallow and media reports sid the handset was LG G5.

Over the past few months, several details about the G5 smartphone appeared online, but none had concrete evidence of authenticity. Last month, rumours indicated LG G5 would borrow the best of LG G4 and LG V10 features. The flagship is expected to feature a 5.3-inch QHD display and a ticker display as seen in the V10. LG will finally ditch plastic in favour of metal for the G5 smartphone.

LG G5 will be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with 3GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. The rumoured smartphone will offer 32GB onboard storage without microSD card option.

Other features expected in the LG G5 include a dual-camera setup with 16 megapixels, dual LED flash, laser focus and a secondary sensor to capture 135-degree wide-angle images. On the front, an 8MP camera sensor is expected, Phone Arena reported.

LG will add fingerprint scanner at the back of the G5 and include a 2,800mAh removable battery.
