The upcoming Mobile World Congress 2016 (MWC 2016), which is scheduled to kick off in Barcelona, Spain, on 22 February, is going to be interesting one as some of the most-anticipated flagship devices are set to be announced at the event. LG's next-generation device, the G5, will be unveiled a day before the MWC 2016 begins.

Interestingly, the day will also witness Samsung unveiling its much-hyped devices, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

Release date and time

LG has sent out invitations for its LG G5 announcement event and it will take place in Barcelona at 14:00 (local time) on 21 February. It has also shared a picture post on its Facebook page that reads: "Excitement begins at Barcelona on February 21st. LG G5 Day." The device is expected to be released a few weeks after its unveiling, perhaps in March.

Display and design

The G5 is expected to sport either a 5.6-inch or 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1,440x2,560 pixels (538 ppi pixel density). It may come with a dimension of 149.4 x 73.9 x 8.2mm and a bezel-less screen.

Hardware and software

It is reported that the G5 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, house an Adreno 530 GPU and come running on Google's latest operating system Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Memory

The device is expected to come packed with a 32GB internal memory (expandable up to 128 GB via microSD card) and a 3GB RAM.

Camera and battery

Reports have it that the G5 will have a 16MP main camera and an 8MP secondary snapper. It is expected to be powered by a Li-Ion 3,000mAh battery.
