The upcoming Karthi-Lakhsmi Menon movie "Komban", which is set to be released on 2 April is now entangled in controversies. Things got uglier today (Tuesday) when judges, watching a special screening of the movie reportedly walked out after they were continuously disturbed by Puthiya Thamizhagam leader K Krishnaswamy.

The special secreening was organised after Madras High Court appointed a ten-member committee to analyse the movie in response to a petition filed by Krishnaswamy to immediately halt the release of the movie citing religious issues.

He had alleged that if the movie "Komban" is released, it will lead to caste clashes between scheduled caste communities and the Thevar community in southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

The latest incident has now triggered a counter protest by Tamil movie buffs and the industry, who have started an online campaign "Save Komaban"  to support the movie.

The latest development has worsened the situation and the producers of the movie, Studio Green have organised a press conference on 31 March evening at Film Chamber of Commerce, Chennai to clarify their position.

Meanwhile, a special screening of the movie has been organised for some of the biggies of the industry including Tamil Film Producers council (TFPC), Nadigar Sangam and other leaders at 4 Frames, Chennai.

The makers have roped in stunt choreographer Super Subbarayan to play the villain role. The film also has Kovai Sarala, Karunas and Thambi Ramaiah in pivotal roles.

The makers have claimed that the script of the movie is action-based and Karthi fans can wait for a treat. The movie is completely shot in the village of Ramanathapuram.

Meanwhile, social activist and director Seeman has come forward and questioned Krishnaswamy's intentions, saying he is targeting the film to derive political mileage. Seeman said that he would join the protest if the movie really degraded any community but condemning a movie without watching it is unethical.

Seeman also reminded how Kumaraswamy led to the title change of Kamal Haasan's "Sandiyar" to "Virumaandi" a decade back, citing religious issue.

Meanhwile, the producers of "Komban", Studio Green have said that "Komban" which received U/A certification will release on 2 April as planned. Whereas some rumours also suggest that the movie's release will be advanced to 1 April as it is already certified.

Gnanavelraj of Studio Green said that it is unfortunate that movie has to face trouble as it has no religious connotations and the story of the movie deals with ego clashes between a son-in-law and a father-in-law.
