One person has been arrested following the bomb blast on a local train in Kolkata early on Tuesday morning, which injured at least 25 passengers, according to news reports.

The incident took place at around 3:50 am when the Sealdah-Krishnanagar local reached Barrackpore railway station, on its way to Krishnanagar in Nadia district, according to Hindustan Times report.

Among the injured passengers, seven have sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Police, RPF, Barrackpore, CID's Bomb Squad along with SRP Sealdah Debasish Bej and Barrackpore police commissioner Niraj Singh reached the spot soon after incident took place.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the blast was the result of an argument between two rival groups, and the miscreants hurled crude bombs at each other inside compartment number five following a scuffle.

While the police said it was a low-intensity blast, all services in the route have been suspended and security has been tightened in view of passengers' safety, The Indian Express reported.
