Rajinikanth's "Kochadaiiyaan" is performing well at the overseas box office. Tamil films of big stars have good markets in key foreign locations. With "Kochadaiiyaan" being a Rajinikanth film, it opened to roaring response worldwide.

Although the historic drama faced stiff competition from other-language films including "Manam" (Telugu) and "Heropanti" (Hindi), the film fetched good collections in major markets like the US, UK, Malaysia and Australia.

"#Kochadaiiyaan, the much-awaited Rajinikanth starrer, has fared exceptionally well in Malaysia in particular. Is good in USA, UK & Australia," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

US

The Tamil version of "Kochadaiiyaan" performed much better than the Telugu version ("Vikramasimha") at the US box office.

The Tamil version minted ₹2.56 crore ($436,165) in its opening weekend in the US, while the Telugu version fetched just ₹7.28 lakh, according to Bollywood Hungama. [Note: The screen count for Tamil and Telugu version varies]

The Rajinikanth starrer outperformed Tiger Shroff's "Heropanti," which minted ₹13.37 lakh in its first weekend. However, the film failed to beat the collections of Akkineni multi starrer "Manam," which did fantastic business in the country.

"Manam" collected ₹4.96 crore ($844,271) and is racing towards the $1 million mark in the US. With the film receiving positive response from the audience, it is likely to perform better than other new releases in the future.
